Golf Balls Review

TaylorMade TP5 – Best All-Around Golf Ball

Our review team’s main criteria for testing golf balls are reacting well to drivers and fairway woods.
What we have found in testing is that the ball reacts well with all golfers. The TaylorMade TP5 provides a great feel off the driver and provides spin around the greens that allow control for players of all skill levels.
The Benefits:
During our golf review, the team at Tell Me More Golf felt that this golf ball provided consistency that no other ball provided across all golf clubs. The conditions and type of golf course were also taken into account. We noted benefits including how well it reacted to drivers, fairway woods, and rolled true with the putter.
Although there was not a significant distance gain, we feel that the overall performance with the driver, irons, and wedges provided more than enough reason to consider switching permanently. Many believe that only low-handicappers or pros put this ball in the bag but it truly is for all golfers.
Driver Guides

Callaway Golf Rogue ST Max Driver – Most Forgiving

Callaway is at the forefront of forgiveness and distance. We are playing the Rogue and Epic and seeing consistent results while adding distance. We found the Callaway drivers performed better on mis-hits and had easy to adjust clubheads to fit all golfers.
The Benefits:
Our team quickly identified the Callaway Rogue, in our golf gear review, as having the greatest potential to improve your golf game whether you are a high handicap or one of the better players in your group. It is easily adjustable to find your ideal spin rate. The accuracy was notably consistent. As I predominantly play a draw or right to left shot shape, I found this club a little more difficult to curve.
Golf Woods Findings

TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Fairway – Great for All Skill Levels

Our guidelines for a good wood club is being easy to hit, launching high, and can be used from the tee or the fairway. The clubhead profile makes it easy to line up and builds confidence quickly for this club, and that shouldn’t be counted out. TaylorMade continues to dominate the fairway wood category.
The Benefits:
As we reviewed fairway woods, we noticed a difference in launch conditions even though we took every step to make the profiles the same while we tested.
Many launched very low with high spin rates, and vice versa, but overall the SIM 2 Max provided the most consistent ball flight. TaylorMade has high-quality shaft options to fit your game and our data showed that the stock shaft increased ball speed for all of the testing team compared to their current fairway woods. In testing, we did notice that this club created a more prominent right to left shot, but could help straighten a slice.
Golf Irons Information

Callaway Golf Mavrik Max Iron Set – All-around Top Performer

While Titleist and Ping irons showed great results, Callaway’s Mavrik Max was a clear winner across the board. Our testers were looking for forgiveness and uniform results. These irons are very consistent clubs, but our guidelines for a good iron set are: providing a great feel and offering reliable spin control. With several True Temper shaft options available, it is hard to go wrong with these in your golf bag.
The Benefits:
We ran these clubs through hundreds of balls each while testing. There was a consensus amongst all of us that these were a clear favorite. They look and feel good, added distance, and the spin rates were very consistent. The forgiveness was noted as high by all testers. We did notice that the shorter irons were longer than our current sets which took some getting used to.
Wedges Explained: Our Selection

Cleveland Golf CBX 2 Wedge

Our guidelines for this wedge test were forgiveness in all conditions, predictable ball flight, and soft feel. The larger head is slightly different from more traditional designs but it is easy to quickly adapt. There are so many good things to say about this wedge.
The Benefits:
As the team went through our wedge testing, we kept coming back to the Cleveland CBX 2. We continued to compare them to our traditional Vokey, Callaway, and Taylormade wedges. What we found was that the Cleveland CBX 2 had a similar feel but with increased forgiveness on miss-hit chips and full shots.
The launch monitor showed similar spin rates to that of the other big-name brands. This is a versatile club for different types of golf courses and golf swings because it is so easy to hit. The testers did notice that the ball had a tendency to come off the face lower on shorter shots.
Putter Guides

Odyssey Golf White Hot OG Putter – All-Around Quality

The high-quality construction and design are combined with the numerous putter head options to suit any golfer. These are the key guidelines for a “best putter” that our review team looks for. Odyssey Golf has been one of the most popular putters on the PGA Tour for decades now.
The Benefits:
Our expert team tested the Odyssey for this putter review and it was a clear winner over the Scotty Camerons. We noticed that we were all able to more easily control speed on longer putts. The consensus was that this was because of the great balanced weighting this club has. All golfers will love how soft it feels to putt with this club and will gain confidence in their ability to control speed. We found this putter was easier to start the ball on line time after time. On mid-range putts, it was easy to hit it by the hole but that just took a few more putts to get used to.
Golf Accessories Information

Bushnell Pro XE Golf Laser Rangefinder

Tell Me More Golf experts tested several rangefinders to see how quickly we could get yardages and how easy they were to use. In addition, we looked for how accurate the rangefinders were as it relates to various elements like slope and even barometric pressure.
The Benefits:
The Bushnell Pro XE was a clear winner. The quality of construction made us confident that it would last through a rough ride or a drop on the cart path. It was so easy to use and instantly captured the yardage to the target. The gold standard of golf rangefinders in Bushnell for a reason. The price point is a little high but there are 4 options to fit your budget.
Golf Cart Analysis

3 Wheel Golf Push Cart Ultra Lightweight

Our Tell Me More Golf guidelines for the best golf cart include the following: you need a durable design that is adjustable and folds easily into your trunk. Having a quality golf cart can help you enjoy the round while getting in several miles of walking. This has become a reputable brand for quality and durability.
The Benefits:
When our team researched golf carts, we walked a few courses using different brands of carts. We had another cart from the golf brand along with some from Quik-Fold. This golf brand won out because it was well built and was easy to fold and get into the car. While it is not the least expensive, it is the perfect balance of price and quality.
