6 Hybrid Distance — How Far Should You Hit a 6 Hybrid?

6 Hybrid Distance from Tell Me More Golf Coaches Teaching You Golf Tips

As many golfers struggle with their mid and long irons, the 6 hybrid has become very popular

That’s why I, the head golf instructor of Tell Me More Golf, have put together this article covering how far the average golfer hits a 6 hybrid, how to hit it well, and much more.

How Far Does the Average Person Hit a 6 Hybrid?

The male average golfer hits a 6 hybrid around 160 yards. Female golfers, on the other hand, hit it about 135 yards on average. The 6 hybrid’s loft isn’t terribly low, which makes the club manageable for a wide range of golfers. There are, however, still large distance discrepancies between skill levels.

In this distance chart, you can see how far the average woman, male beginner, average man, advanced man, and professional golfer hits a 6 hybrid. These numbers are averages though, and many high handicap golfers hit it farther, and vice versa.

Club Head Speed

The average clubhead speed for amateur golfers using a 6 hybrid is around 80 mph.

It’s essential to remember, though, that swing speed is influenced by various factors, such as a golfer’s swing mechanics and physical strength.

Tips on Hitting a 6 Hybrid for Distance

Many high handicappers and intermediates opt for a 6 hybrid over their mid irons, since the club is more forgiving and often goes longer distances for them. To hit your 6 hybrid the longest way possible, you need to hit down on the golf ball and hit the sweet spot of the clubface.

Once you do that, you need to improve your swing mechanics and increase your swing speed.

When Should I Use a 6 Hybrid?

On the golf course, there are many places where a 6 hybrid is a great club choice. It’s mainly used for approach shots into greens, where the high launch and spin create a soft landing.

You can also use the club for tee shots on par 3s and sometimes short par 4s.

The 6 hybrid’s design allows it to slide over the turf, making it great for rescue shots on tricky lies and bump-and-run shots around the greens.

6 Hybrid Loft Degrees

A 6 hybrid’s exact loft depends on the manufacturer and spec, but you can typically expect a loft of about 28 degrees. This is relatively high for a hybrid, which means that the launch and spin will also be quite high.

What is a 6 hybrid equivalent to?

A 6 hybrid has a loft of around 28 degrees, making it equivalent to a 6 iron with a standard loft of around 26 degrees. The similarity in lofts creates similar distances for both of these clubs, and that’s why many amateurs switch out their 6 iron for a more forgiving 6 hybrid.

Is a 6 hybrid useful?

The 6 hybrid is very versatile and can be used in many situations. You’ll typically use it for approach shots on holes of all lengths, and tee shots on par 3s are also a place where it comes in handy.

Does a 6 hybrid go as far as a 6 iron?

A 6 hybrid and a 6 iron have very similar lofts, making them go similar distances. However, the hybrid design enables many golfers to strike the golf ball better off the fairway, which combined with the higher spin and launch makes the 6 hybrid go farther for them.

On the other hand, high swing speed players can experience the opposite, as a higher spin and launch don’t suit them.

How many degrees is a 6 hybrid?

While lofts can differ quite significantly depending on the manufacturer and spec, the average loft for a 6 hybrid is around 28 degrees.

What hybrid would replace a 5 wood?

Generally speaking, a 3 hybrid would replace a 5 wood. These clubs often have similar lofts and will therefore go similar distances. However, this also depends on the specs of the clubs, and in some cases a 2 hybrid is a better replacement.

Which hybrids should I carry?

Which hybrid golf clubs you should have in the golf bag mainly depends on your distances, skill level, and what irons and fairway woods you use. For example, it’s unnecessary to have a 3 hybrid and a 5 wood, just like having both a 6 hybrid and 6 iron can be excessive. However, this also comes down to personal preference

Conclusion:

The 6 hybrid is a great golf club for many amateur golfers, as it’s very forgiving and delivers good distances. Male golfers hit their 6 hybrid, on average, around 160 yards, while females hit it around 135 yards
